Refrigerator Envy
“So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,” Galatians 3:26 NIV
I have a cluttered refrigerator. Not the inside, but on the outside. I love to display my two children’s latest photographs as well as some of their baby photos. Hung on the corner is a lovely drawing of a cross on a hill that my sweet Abby created when she was nine. I also have a magnet hanging there Zack made for me when he was just a preschooler. I like to post Scripture verses and inspirational quotes all over the white metal appliance, hopefully giving our family encouragement. And of course my calendar is there to help keep track of all of my family’s activities. My refrigerator displays a wide variety of stuff but it all relates to family. My precious family, and I absolutely love it. But I will admit that sometimes I look at the fridge and think, “What a mess!”
I have immaculate refrigerator envy. You know the type of appliance- the clean fridge that only sparkles and shines. It may have a few photos adorning it but they are small and arranged neatly. The clutter is minimal and organization is clearly evident. I have always wanted to have a refrigerator like this but have been unable to achieve it. I just can’t bring myself to pack away those memories and pieces of my heart that hang there.
I recently questioned, “I wonder what God’s refrigerator in Heaven looks like? Does He have my photo hanging on it to remind Him of the day I surrendered my heart to Him? Or does He put little Scripture verse notes up there that apply specifically to me because He wants to give me inspiration throughout my day?” The Bible states in Galatians, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith." God has a lot of adopted children because we have accepted Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior through faith. As believers, we claim inheritance in Heaven as God’s children. He loves each of us dearly and no doubt, is proud of us, like any Father of his children.
I can only imagine God’s refrigerator looks a lot like mine and not the pristine one I sometimes dream of. I suspect His fridge is cluttered and messy but with memorabilia of His family. He displays proudly all of our accomplishments and achievements. He shows His love for us by the massive collage of pictures of His priceless treasures decorate his refrigerator. We are loved and His fridge shows it.
So be encouraged if you are like me and have an untidy appliance. You may need to let go of your refrigerator envy. If it’s okay for God’s fridge to look cluttered than surely it is okay for yours to be too. Be uplifted that God unselfishly lavishes His beautiful love on you as His son or daughter. Gain inspiration today to become a member of God’s family if you are not already His child. Surrender your life to Him today. You don’t want to miss out on having your photo displayed on the King’s refrigerator in Heaven.
