If I was sick, or felt sad, and lay on the couch, she’d crawl up on my chest and give me a hug by placing her nose right over my face. When out running she’d look up at me with a big smile to be sure I noticed her happiness. She wouldn’t bark at little dogs but at big dogs she’d bark loudly and pretend to be very brave. Yet when she had gas and let out a "toot," she'd be so scared she'd try to run away from her rear end. When something on the stove burned, and smoke began to fill the air, she would go to the door and bark, trying to get us out of the house to safety.

Sometimes when guests arrived she’d get so excited she’d leave a little pee puddle for them as a welcome-to-our-house present. She thought a wailing siren was an invitation to sing, and she’d howl like a wolf. She loved to roll on her back in the grass, catch some rays in front of the patio door on a sunny day, and eat popcorn. But her favorite thing of all was getting her tummy rubbed.

When our little dog was alive she put a smile on everyone's face.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. – James 1:17
