As Christians we know that praying is our communication to God. When we pray it is asking for help or answers to a particular circumstance in our lives. But are you asking God a specific question? “If you want to know what he wants you to do, ask him, and he will gladly tell you, for he is always ready with bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask him.” (James 1:5-6) Recently, I had asked myself that question and my answer was, “no, I don’t think I am”. I think we can all relate to prayers regarding financial obligations these days. I pray and speak to God about many facets in my life but one I never bypass is financial concern. As humans we get caught up in our daily responsibilities but make some time of the day for conversing with God. Although it can be so quick that it becomes too vague for Him. I can say that when I have giving time to God during times of a hectic life schedule, I didn’t feel I was getting answers. I could sense something was not clear. I didn’t put the blame on God because I know He loves us too much to neglect. I would talk to other Christians about what I was experiencing. I had been given advice and testimonies about how others would spend time having conversations about a particular problem in their lives. They would get specific such as names of people, locations, how they were feeling then ask God for advice. This was useful for me to help me understand that asking God to wash my financial worries away every night was just not enough. I began to get more specific with my questions such as when I was dealing with years of fraud collectors. This is a common situation although I felt like I was the only one dealing with fraudulent collectors. They would call me leaving voicemails about being arrested and that I owe thousands of dollars. I was beyond terrified but knew I did not owe any money. I just was scared, as any innocent young lady would be. So I would pray about that specific thing in my life. One day I had thought, why not look up help online. I found consumer attorneys in my living area that offered a free consultation about collectors and fraud. They responded within a day with an answer. Long story short, I was told to not pay anything and there was nothing they could do to me. I haven’t received any fraud phones calls after being harassed for over 2 years. Secondly, I had another follower ask me if I read the bible daily. I was honest and answer with, “not consistently”. He explain to me that when he would pray for help or answers then look into the bible, he found verses that were familiar to him but didn’t make sense till that day. This is because as you wait to hear from God he may give answers through passages in the Bible. “Open my eyes, so that I may see the wonderful truths in your law.” (Psalm 119:18)
