Distractions in our lives make it difficult to hear God. I am sure as growing Christians, we can relate to each other about life’s distractions. One of the most common distractions that keep us from hearing God is busyness. When we are busy we are distracted but it is just noise. When do you make it quiet in your life to hear God?

A month ago, I met with a friend I hadn’t seen in two years. He told me he has been growing his faith the last two years; he is a youth group leader, plays guitar in the worship band and attends church regularly. I was very pleased and happy to have learned this about him. However, I had felt disappointment not in him but in myself. I thought to myself, “I have been too busy” after that thought passed by I felt like I betrayed a friend I care so much about. How can I let that happen?

The next Sunday I went to my church and the service was about communication with God. I couldn’t have heard God any clearer. I left knowing God wants to speak to me but I can’t hear him with the noise in my life. I had to make the time to sit down and be with him.

“ The seed that fell among the throny weeds is like those who hear God’s teaching, but they let the worries, riches, and pleasures of this life keep them from growing and producing good fruit. “ (Luke 8:14)

Weeds are signs of neglect they choke out the growth of good fruit. Distractions are like weeds and I needed to cut them so I could continue to flourish as a Christian. As of this day, I make time everyday even throughout the day to spend with God. When I have a question, I get an answer. I will never have a greater friendship.
