The whole Bible, almost 1,700 pages of God-breathed words, crescendos to one singular point in history: the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, the Christ in A.D. 33. No other event in history is as important or absolutely crucial for the benefit, the very salvation of the human race.
Christians believe that Jesus died on a cross for the sins of the world, was buried, and on the third day came out of the grave alive, as the Old Testament prophets and Jesus Himself had foretold He would. Skeptics have long denied the Resurrection as trickery or myth, mass hysteria or other such things. The critics have a host of conspiracy theories about what may have happened, but no evidence to back them up. And there were no eyewitnesses to say with proof that Jesus did not rise from the dead. If they could they'd have jumped at the chance!
We know today that a credible eyewitness is invaluable to a court case being either won or lost. Well, Jesus, the risen Lord, was seen alive after His resurrection by over 500 witnesses!
"After that, He appeared to more than 500 brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now.... Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles..." 1 Corinthians 15:6-8.
Luke, the doctor and writer of Acts says "and we are witnesses of all the things He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem. And they also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross. God raised Him up on the third day and granted that He should become visible to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead." Acts 10:39-42.
Friends, do you think if Jesus was to introduce 500 credible witnesses in a court of law to attest to having witnessed His resurrection, that it might sway the verdict in His favor? Yes, I quite agree. But there is no need; it already took place 2,000 years ago. The eyewitnesses were true, the verdict is in, the Resurrection of Jesus, the Christ from the dead really did happen. He is alive today, and reigns in the hearts of those who love Him.
Jesus still offers the invitation to witness His resurrected life and glory. "Behold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock. If anyone opens the door, I will come in to him and sup with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20.
In conclusion, the veracity of the Bible is proved by the proven fact of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ! More evidence that we can trust the Bible of the living God next time. God bless you...mike
