I want to do a series of brief discussions on prophetic fulfillment in the Holy Scriptures. This is such an important topic. Correct understanding of its importance can greatly increase the faith and confidence of believers (those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior); and, it can leave the skeptic or the curious with at least an openness to this God who knows the end from the beginning.
According to the dictionary, a prophet is one who utters divinely inspired revelations or one who foretells future events. If I told you that I could tell the future you would probably think, "Oh boy, another wacko!" And rightly so. I cannot foretell the future; actually, I have enough trouble just dealing with the present. But that's for another post.

But what if I told you 500 things that were going to happen in your life in the next 3 years. We meet 3 years later, and lo and behold, every one of those things has taken place! What would you believe then?
Would your belief system have to change because of what you had witnessed in your own life? Would you look at me differently? Probably, right?

Large portions of the Bible were written by people whom God had divinely inspired to tell of future events. And being a prophet in those ancient times was no joke. "But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name [the Lord's], which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die." Deuteronomy 18:20.

That may seem like a harsh judgment to us, but idolatry or serving gods other than the true and living God of the Bible was Israel's worst sin and lay at the root of all their difficulties as a nation throughout thousands of years. Now listen carefully to what he says in the next verse, and remember, this is God speaking to us: "And if you say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the Lord has not spoken?'--

"When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." Deuteronomy 18:21,22. In other words, if what the prophet predicts doesn't come to pass, he is not a prophet of God.

The true prophets of God in the Old Testament, like Moses, Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, never made a prophetical error! God says above, if they do make an error about the future, they are not His prophets. So, according to God Almighty, we can trust His prophets and their prophecy. All of these prophecies, including those in the New Testament, either have come true

already, or will come true in human history, and, I believe, they'll be coming true soon!

What God says about His own Word, the Bible, is that we can absolutely trust it. It is from Him to us.
