Devotionals
October 16, 2014
When you see the title above, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? Well, for the longest time, I just thought, “Oh, okay... So there are some speckled bananas!” That is until late this afternoon! While, I was baking banana bread, I looked at them in a totally different light! And farther on this evening I have developed this devotional into something even more!
So, here’s the thing, we are like speckled bananas! How, you must wonder? Well, we are all full of bumps and bruises. And both inside and out too! How could someone so amazing and perfect, possibly want flawed imperfect people like us?
Here’s the a catch thought! Think back and try to remember, what did you first thing when you heard that speckled bananas were good for making banana bread? This is what I thought: How is the world can something that looks so ugly possibly taste and make something good?
Well, just like speckled bananas are good for making banana bread and used for something good to eat. We are made for God’s glory and pleasure. And He takes us – just as we are… bruised and imperfect! To take us and shape us into what He would have us be.
Just like we take speckled bananas and turn them into something good to eat. Let this be an encouragement to you! Especially, when you think you aren't worth much or can do anything worthwhile in life. Think about the speckled bananas that don’t seem like they could possibly make anything tasty!
And don’t look at the outside of the banana! Rather, look on the inside! Because, the inside of that speckled banana looks all right! Or at least normally! Well, it is just the same with you! You may not be extra ordinarily handsome or pretty on the outside. But, why does that matter? Think about where God looks… On the inside! He looks at the heart!
Back to the inside though! The inside of a speckled banana is not always perfectly off- white... or whatever colours the banana is! But the point is, you can cut it out! And that’s just like us! God will prune and trim off the parts within us that do not bear fruit.
So, from now on… Don’t just think of speckled bananas as just being speckled bananas! Think about them as a filled packed lesson we need to hear over and over! As well as a story, that everyone should hear! So, go! Go, and share the many lessons a speckled banana offers!
~ P.S. My challenge to you is too find the verses i used, but didn't totally quote within this devotional!~
That can be your Bible Study part of this Devotional.
