Listening In the Wrong Place
________________________

Arianna Hamilton looked at her watch and exclaimed, “Oh! I’ll be ten minutes late for my first basketball game! Just then, her mother knocked on the door and leaned against the door jamb and stated clearly.

“Aria… I told you fifteen minutes ago to get ready for your first game! And look at you, still listening with your headphones on! I hate to tell you this honey, but when I talked to you fifteen minutes ago about the game, you know what you did?” asked her mother.

Arianna looked sheepishly at her mother and said, “I smiled and nodded, indicating that I understood. There was this really good song on 99.5. and I thought I could read lips!”

Her mother looked pleadingly at her daughter, trying to understand why her daughter did this so much. Then, became guilty herself and hollered,” Aria, would you just get off your butt, and get ready to go! I could just not bother driving there at all!

Now, this got things moving! She jumped out of her beany bag chair, whipped on her uniform and running shoes, then headed out the door with her water bottle.

Later on, at supper while her mother was replaying the details of their hectic afternoon to her father. Someone who had been listening for a long time to more then what was just being told of then declared,“I told you so Daddy! Arianna doesn't ever listen in the right place!”
Father leaned over and ruffled five-year old Danny’s already messed up hair and said, “We all need to learn to do that son.”

Key verse:
he who answers before listening –
This is his folly and his shame.
Proverbs 18: 13

Discussion & Questions:

We can all be like Arianna sometimes, can't we? By listening in the wrong spot. But did you know that there at wrong places to look, read or listen too?

1- What do you think some of them might be?

2- And where are some good places to look or listen to and read?

3- Have you ever been caught forgetting something, which makes you late or get into trouble?
