When Pain And Suffering Come

Because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his sons.

Despite what most believe, pain and suffering has been ordained for humankind’s protection and enhancement. With pain, we would not know whether the ground we were walking on had sharp stones or fine grains of sand or hot water that might give one a first degree burn. If decide to drink or eat too much, the consequences of over indulgence and suffering it brings to teach us what we are not to do.

Realizing that pain of many varieties from multitudes of sources are appointed every person throughout life, is allowed by the Master of the Universe. It is then each person’s individual task to learn from their experience. Many who experience pain and suffering view their hurt as punishment from God and that it is unjust. Rather than view God an evil, uncaring monster, consider God as using pain and suffering as a test. Our approach should be to thicken our skin against verbal assaults because we are suffering for expressing our Christian faith; strengthen our backs to carry the burden of a loss of employment; and increase our faith when a loved one dies unexpectedly.

Each time one suffers pain whether physical, psychological or emotional, though seemingly uncanny, thank God for allowing you to become a greater man or woman and a little more divine—and prepared for a little more pain and suffering when the next round comes.

Prayer:

Almighty God and Father, You made me in a most loving way. Help me to accept all pain and suffering obediently to Your most holy will. Grant me the strength to never doubt Your faithfulness as I cry out in pain. I offer You all that hurts me as I know You sent them that I may be more acceptable to You for my salvation. I united my pain and suffering with that of Your beloved Son who suffered on my behalf. These things I pray. Amen.
