Self-Reliance Over Co-dependency

I answered them by saying, “The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.”

Nehemiah 2:20 (NIV)


Any person who has lost self-reliance has lost all. Anyone who has become co-dependent to another calling the relationship compassion is nothing more than a slave to another. Without self-reliance, there is not inspiration. A co-dependent individual is devoid of courage and fearful of independence. For to be independent, pain, suffering, doubt are sure to result.

Co-dependent persons doubt whom you will, but not God or yourself. They are the two upon whom you must rely the most. Hardly a man or woman in a hundred know absolutely what he/she is able to do for her-/his-self—with God’s help. If the worst should come to worst—if all help should fail—you and God, together, can make a go of it! …and with God by a person’s side, failure does not have a chance!

As goes your co-dependency, so goes you—up or down!


Prayer:

Almighty God, I pray that You will grant me the ability to resist co-dependency and servitude to people and things that lead me from Your unconditional love and mercy. Help me rein in my passions, desires and emotions with submission to Your Spirit. Grant me discernment to determine the difference between right and wrong in all things. Grant me the strength I need to fight evil. Amen.
