I'd like to share a poem about my beloved friend,
to let everyone know he’s a special kind of friend.
I’d like to capture his wit, his kind and gentle heart,
his pleasant disposition …but where do I start?
My mind cannot summarise!
It is a challenging exercise,
finding words to describe my friend
that only my heart can comprehend!
Flawed is his character just like mine!
But he wears a special garment that makes him shine;
Knitted with trust, faithfulness and loyalty,
with a heart that reveres God, he's a friend known for his integrity.
Reaching milestones and achieving goals,
he celebrates with friends joyfully.
Through sickness, sorrow and pain,
he journeys with them faithfully.
A perfect example of a true friend:
In wisdom or folly, on him I can depend,
to correct me, to encourage me or show me the way.
Words cannot display what only the heart can say.

Happy Birthday Stephen!
To celebrate, you've given me much reason...
So I echo the message in your card: "There's a joy that never ends...
...between the hearts of such good friends."
You never stop loving, that’s how we know you care.
Our lives have been enriched by the love that you share.
So on this very special day, hearts and voices celebrate;
Sending greetings your way, birthday memories to create.

Writing this poem, to commemorate my friend's birthday, has caused me to think seriously about what friendship truly means. Since then I have written two separate articles about friendship which you can find on my profile: 'Questions About Friendship' and 'Loyalty in Friendship'. I pray that reading those articles along with this poem will help you to think about the people whom God has placed in your life and ensure that you do all that you can to develop and maintain such friendship. Being the "people person" I am, friends have always been so very important to me and once I learned to look to Jesus as my greatest friend has got me to always ask, "what would Jesus do?" when nurturing and developing my relationship with all those people I call friend. Only you can tell me how I'm doing. Just know I consider each and every one of you a blessing!
