A Test of Faith

There are many mystifying stories in the Bible-
beginning with
Creation-
that generally offer us an explanation of how things came to be.

Of the many stories from which I had been told,
and ones from which I have had the privilege of reading myself,
I have always been most enamored with the tale of
David and Goliath.

David
who I had always envisioned to be a youth of average stature,
but for whatever reason
leaning towards the scrawny side in weight;
had taken on the monstrous giant, Goliath.
Goliath,
to me, had always conjured images of a man well over nine feet tall;
skilled in battle; thus equipped with a sword and shield.
In my mind, his face always had shown contempt and anger.

David,
although people had laughed at him
and had told him he could not defeat this brute of a man,
did not listen.
Instead, he had taken his direction from God.
Equipped with only a slingshot ,
which to many is considered a child’s toy,
stood his ground and shocked this enormous perpetrator.

How had he not cowered?
How had he had so much courage?
How had he known without a doubt that that had been the right thing to do?

Faith.
Faith is having the perseverance to go forward through any of life’s difficulties-
no matter the size-
with the understanding that God will never leave you no matter the circumstances.
It is being steadfast and strong,
believing in what God tells you
and not succumbing to the false statements the world may present.
