You know you're living in 2002 when you have a list of 15 phone
numbers to contact your family of three or you've been sitting at the same
desk for four years but worked for three different companies.

Let me guess -- the turkey has been purchased, the menu has been
planned, the family and guests have been invited, the furniture has
been polished, the house has been scrubbed, but Mom never gets a
break. It's work, work, work, and as the dishes pile up, the fellows
gather in the living to burp and watch football. Now did I describe
a typical Thanksgiving? A woman has to be incredibly strong or
totally fatigued at Thanksgiving. T'aint fair.

In all this, when is there time to be Thankful?. O I know, there's
the typical prayer, "Lord, we give thanks for this abundance of
food, and we pray for those around the world who are starving" --
sure we do! Maybe the proper way to celebrate Thanksgiving is to
share some of our abundance with those around the world who are
really starving. There are many ways -- Samaritan's Purse
(www.samaritanspurse.org), Christian Aid Mission
(www.christianaid.com), and your local church and community
food banks, etc.

Perhaps our Thanksgiving prayer before we gorge ourselves should
be one of asking for forgiveness. I don't want to put a damper on
this wonderful family holiday, but perhaps we aren't being fair -- to
Mom or the starving. Let's think about it.

We'll take Hebrews 6:10 (nlt) out of context and apply it to our
Moms at this Thanksgiving time: "For God is not unfair. He will
not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how you have
shown your love to Him by caring for other Christians as you still
do," Thanks, Moms!
