Today's subject is too serious to start with the usual attempt at
humor.

A new subscriber just shared that they learned that her husband
was diagnosed with cancer, and they have two quite young
children. That sort of hits you in the pit of the stomach, doesn't it?
Pray for them.

When you hear that dreaded C word (a number of you have), you
automatically go into shock and are tempted to say why me, and
perhaps some of you are saying that right now -- "why me?"
Cancer or any serious malady is no respecter of person's. There
isn't a demon out there saying, "I think I'll pick on this one today."
It just strikes randomly with perhaps no reason or many reasons
like genetics, etc. Rather than ask "why me," ask "Help me to
cope."

The child of God has the privilege to call on the strength of God to
help them deal with it and sometimes to see a miracle of healing.
We would all want that, but if it doesn't happen, don't curse God.
Instead, embrace Him and thank Him for helping you deal with it.

Let me share from my experience. About 12 or so years ago I had
a mini-stroke. The doctors put me on one aspirin a day. My doctor
here in Florida (almost 6 years ago) told me I didn't need a whole
aspirin because a baby aspirin was enough. I switched, and within
several weeks I had pretty severe stroke. So, do I blame God for
that? Of course not -- I thank Him for helping me deal with it, and
so should you in your situation. I've been told since that a baby
aspirin may ward off heart problems but it isn't enough to prevent
stroke. In my case it wasn't, but praise God I'm still here.

Psalm 31:24 should give comfort (nlt), "So be strong and take
courage, all you who put your hope in the Lord!"
