Jonah Prayed

Now the LORD provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
Jonah 1:17 (NIV)

Because of his lack of faith, Jonah was cast out of a boat, into a raging sea. The seas were stormy; the sailors blamed Jonah for angering God since he hadn’t followed his instructions. Jonah told the sailors to toss him over the side to quell the storm. The sailors were afraid so over the side he went. Because they feared Jonah had angered God because of his disobedience they threw Jonah over the side, believing this would end the storm. With Jonah gone, they believed there would be no more anger toward them from God, the storm would end. God did provide Jonah a safe place to lodge, the belly of a large fish, a whale. It was a dark and scary place, Jonah prayed the entire three days until God had him vomited onto dry land.

Many non-believers find this story absurd. How could a man survive in the belly of a whale? The juice and gasses within would kill him, if the fish didn’t just eat him. I know God can do anything so I believe the story. If you have any further issues ask God himself.

Absurd? I bet you can relate to this story without ever being in the belly of a whale. Have you ever been in an emotionally dark place? Have you ever wondered how you were going to get out? No hope? Ever believe this is the problem that will sink me? I am all alone? No one will or can come to my rescue this time? Jonah, prayed. People have said prayer won’t help.
Jonah, prayed. Really there is no way out. Jonah, Prayed. Three days later he was vomited on to dry land.

Well I’m not crazy about the vomited part but he was safe and sound on dry land, safe and secure. Why, because Jonah, prayed. Yes he needed a bath, he needed to clean up but he was safe because he prayed, God heard and answered his prayer. Alone, dark and scared, Jonah, prayed. Don’t give up no matter what, like Jonah, Pray.
