Loving Others
What does love require of me?
Anonymous
We all know someone that is hard to love. There is just something about them that really gets under our skin. Jesus told his disciples and all who were listening, that one of the greatest commands is for us is to love our neighbors as he loved us. Jesus also told us that we are to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Take a minute and think about that. Paul tells us in his letter to the Corinthians that: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
Some people just ignore this, even some Christians. But we are called to be more than that, we are called to be disciples. Disciples follow Jesus, they live by His commands. Although some things may be difficult, disciples do what Jesus has instructed them through love and gratitude. When it is tough disciples should be asking, “What does love require of me?” Can you imagine what life would be like if we approached each person we encounter asking ourselves this question?
Jesus even told us that people will distinguish us as His disciples because of our sincere love for one another. We will show our love for one another as Jesus loves us. We will love others as we love ourselves. If we are struggling with this we may ask God to give this person all we desire for ourselves. We may ask ourselves “What does love require of me” with each individual we encounter and in relationship with.
God Bless
