Here's an email letter that my long time friend David Jacobs wrote to me. I met David back around 1977 at Delta Jr College in Stockton at a chess tournament. David was a good chess player (as good or better than myself) and we both challenged each other's thinking when it came to Biblical matters and things pertaining to theology and the Christian faith. I was perhaps in one of my silly moods when David was in more of a serious temper at this time or at least in his email response. While I've tended to be serious most of the time I've had my moments of foolishness as well. This was one of them as you will see by my short response.

"Arise Peter, kill and eat" with these words and the word of the subject line, according to the Word of God as recorded in Acts 10, the "unclean" does not exist, as it did before. The only unclean men are those who reject Christ. It is not an ethnic thing anymore. That is the primary meaning of the passage, that "gentiles" are clean. In bringing that point home to Peter, God declares that these previously unclean animals are clean- "What God has cleansed..." refers in the immediate context to the animals as food, yet in the broader and more important context it was referring to men, as Peter understood.

God set up clean and unclean to teach Israel there was a difference between them and the nations, that they were to be different, because God regarded them, as His covenant people, as different, and by removing that distinction, he was also, as the passage shows, removing that which symbolized it.

As to ham being not permitted as a theonomist, I only know of one, Dr Rushdoony who goes there. While he is right on many things, he misses badly on this issue.

If one chooses not to eat pork, that is a choice of preference, not one that is God mandated. The Scripture affirms in 1 Timothy 4 just this same point, and in fact says that it is those who have departed from the faith and adopted doctrines of devils (v1) who try and get people to, among other things abstain from meats (v3) that God has created and declared good (v3). Do you still wish to go there? A pig certainly is one of the "every creature" spoken of in verse 4 is it not?

The dietary laws of those who diligently hate Christ are not binding ("kosher") but Scripture is, like I stated earlier, if you elect not to as a matter of preference, fine and good, pork is not as good for you as other meats (or so I have heard), but God has stated in His infallible Word that that is not unclean. I claim the whole Bible.

Arise Carl, kill and eat, for God has cleansed it-receive it with prayer and thanksgiving as any other good gift from God. Isaiah 9:6-7

Okay, I'll take the ham and cheese without the ham. You know HAM is not permitted if you are a theonomist David. And don't temp me with any baloney either.

At least Dr. Rushdoony would probably spit the pork out at his first chance.

My favorite sandwich is peanut butter and bananas. Yeah, get that protein and potassium thing going. Confucius say good nutrition and good taste don't always mix.

Subject Acts 10, 1 Tim 4


I was rather expecting a reply last evening, but perhaps with no immediate reply it means that you are re-studying the matter. Your comment about theonomists and pork is a rather ignorant comment, since you know that Rushdoony is in a small minority of theonomists on that point.

I saw the citation from Confucius, and was going to ask if you were taking your philosophy from there (in jest of course), (of course you realize that an anti-meat philosophy is pagan in its roots-look at the eco-nazis who revere the created order, except man, and hate God, who made all things, and refuse to eat meat because you had to kill the animal, but think nothing about injuring in various ways, or vandalizing human beings that oppose them, or of killing the unborn) one of my common quotations is from Dirty Harry in the movie Magnum Force (see if you can give me the quote, since I know you are more up on movies than I am) and I certainly hope that I would not take my philosophy from him.

Speaking of movies, do you remember the old movie "king of the sun"? Where are you going to church these days, or are you going regularly? Your body may be doing well on peanut butter and bananas, but how is your walk with Messiah Jesus? Hope all is well, Isaiah 9:6-7
