It’s Not Funny

I went to church on tonight for Bible Study. As I finished the prayer and called for the Mother to read a scripture I was very disappointed. One of the members came in late, walked across the Altar in front of the Mother as she read the Scripture. It was a very disrespectful act and my husband that belongs to a body of believers that is very much talked about among the Christian world as not being saved. If he was thinking about crossing over to Christianity I felt a move backwards by the act of this one disrespectful woman. He told her not to walk in front of the Speaker next. As the speaker was teaching her telephone rang out in the congregation and she came from the kitchen and walked right in front of the speaker that was at the podium by the Altar. She returned to the kitchen after retrieving her cell phone from her purse, talking on it loudly as she walked back across in front of the speaker. This woman was teaching a child how to play on the cell phone in Church too! I could not believe someone that’s supposed to be a seasoned saint acted so disrespectfully in the Lord’s house. She told me she had to talk; the job that was calling. God forbid!

Ecclesiastes 5:1-2 keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fool; for they consider not that they do evil. Be not rash with thy mouth and let not thine heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and thou upon the earth; therefore let thy words be few.

What kind of sacrifice are we bringing to God’s house? Why are we so disrespectful to God? We are to enter into the house of the Lord with praise and worship on our lips. Who knows what is good for man in this life better than God? Man’s appetite is not after God as it should; riches and wealth is more important to man than God. These people are hasty to be seen of men rather than know that God is looking and booking. Many things in the earth increase vanity. All of man’s labor is for his mouth and yet their appetite’s is not filled. We come in hastily and are ready to get out of church as soon as possible. We disrupt the services with unnecessary talking, texting, and walking. We have lost our senses; our direction is off and we ponder on things that does not edify. We wander around ignorantly and are too anxious to get to heaven only to be tossed out. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

When we come in the House of God with this spirit of pride we carry ourselves arrogantly. I Samuel 2:3 talk no more so exceeding proudly, let not arrogancy come out of your mouth. Then we are wicked and evil in all of our ways and we will do anything. When this woman comes in that spirit of pride is all over her. Then everyone else is persecuted and wrong if she can’t lead them off in her devices that she deems right in her own imagination. Pride compasses her about as if she is being led around on a chain. Pride causes us to have a high look and a proud heart. Psalm 138:6 though the Lord be high hath he respect unto the lowly but the proud he knows afar off. God has respect for man that He does not cross us to make us do anything. He respects us but do we respect ourselves. The Lord knows those that are his. He gives grace to the lowly in heart but he scorns the scorner. God hates a proud look. With pride comes shame and there is a sham associated with their seemingly joy. A sham means there exists; a form of pretense, falseness, misleading and untrue acts that when found out is only to dishonor. When they are revealed they are humiliated and disgraced. To be arrogant means one is insolent (disrespectful, insulting, rude, impertinent and overbearing), haughty (disdainful, egotistical), and they have the audacity (to act boldly, shameless, and daring) when they really only appear ignorant. When told of their ways as if it really looks good they take the attitude that “they can’t tell me anything”.

It’s nothing funny about someone with a spirit like this; most times they don’t realize they carry this spirit. They hate their lives and want to be seen, heard and known. They can be very offensive, detestable, hateful, and repugnant. They abhor and resent others to the point of despising them with much dislike, animosity, enmity, and hatred. It’s not funny. Pride carries us to dimensions we don’t want to go. Proverbs 15:5 a fool despises his father’s instruction. We have been taught that for best results follow instructions. Correction is grievous to him that forsakes the way and hates reproof. Prideful people will never go to the wise for counsel. They hate reproof and dies early. Proverbs 16:5 every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord. A proud look and a proud heart is sin. For men to search their own glory is not glory.

Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit. Let another man praise thee and not thy own mouth. Jesus never boasts of himself nor did He go against the established Order God had already set in the earth. Jesus came low, lived low and left the earth in a humiliated state to reach down low to bring sinners up high. Jesus was lifted up from the earth and said that He would draw all men to him. Pride was never once named among Jesus but we can see His humble humility in everything He did. It was all about God; the Father that He glorified. He never looked for or brought glory unto himself. There is a generation that is pure in their eyes, self-centered, cocky, and self-righteous in the time we live in today. If change does not come that they have been washed of their filthiness in Hell will they lift up their eyes.

Jeremiah said it like this in Jeremiah 9:23-24 let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord which exercises loving kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith the Lord. Jesus said that whosoever would exalt himself to be something when they are not shall be abased or brought low. It is from within the heart of man that evil thoughts are devised. Not only that but we love going around in long clothing, having our faces covered, and loving salutation wherever we go. We want the important roles and the important seats but when it really comes down to it we cannot live up to God’s standards described written in His Word.

It’s not funny! It’s never a right time for us to lay down our salvation and die, but get up and work the works of your hands while we can. Remember someone in your midst is watching our actions. Our neighbors are watching, co-workers at work are watching, and last but not least our neighbors. We must be mindful of the one that we represent and that representation will be judged by God.
