"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."
1 John 5:4

Oh, child of God consider this blessed truth. If you are born of God then you have a faith which is victorious because it is a faith which overcometh the world. Nothing can prevail against you in the storms of life. Nothing! Why? Because no good thing will He withhold from them who walk uprightly. (Psalm 84:11) Grace is a good thing and the grace of faith is a good thing also. It is a gift of God not of works lest any man should boast." Eph. 2:8-9

Even when the clouds of despair hurl around your head and nothing seems to be going right be assured that with God all things are possible. Besides love, joy and peace the fourth fruit of the Spirit is longsuffering or patience. Galatians 5:22

"Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." James 1:3

If we have the faith which justifies us and declares us righteous before God then we have
a certain amount of patience. We have peace with God" (Romans 5:1)so let patience have her perfect work and see you through to the end. James 1:4

Your faith may be weak like a bruised reed but God says he will not break you (Isa 42:3) if you belong to Him. The faith God gives you prevails against all the attacks of the evil one who like a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. We may be worn weak and thin with many a battle scar and feel ourselves feeble and without strength but the promise is heard from the Spirit's declaration "this is the victory that overcometh the world."

Beloved, Christians are overcomers. Take that to heart and never forget it. Our spiritual enemies the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life are part of the world and "the world passes away and the lust thereof but he that does the will of God abides forever."
1 John 2:16

There's a great hymn written by a Methodist minister John Henry Yates, (1837–1900)called "Faith Is The Victory". Perhaps you remember that old tune. Let it refresh your memory as you go back to yonder years when perhaps you were walking closer to God. The lyrics goe like this:

Encamped along the hills of light,
Ye Christian soldiers, rise,
And press the battle ere the night
Shall veil the glowing skies.
Against the foe in vales below,
Let all our strength be hurled;
Faith is the victory, we know,
That overcomes the world.

Refrain

Faith is the victory!
Faith is the victory!
Oh, glorious victory
That overcomes the world.

Now isn't that lovely poetry and music to the soul? Sing that over and over again making a joyful noise unto the Lord and I know you will begin to prosper once again if you have been down and depressed.

Yes, Faith is the victory that overcomes the world!

I love the hymns of the faith and I trust your church hasn't forgotten them and let them fall by the wayside.

It seems the thorns and thistles of modern music have choked out the good seed of older richer lyrics and melodies and this is a dangerous thing. This isn't to say there aren't some good modern tunes but they don't hold a candle in my opinion to the historic hymns whose writers lived faithful lives often forgotten by our current generation.

One of the signs of apostasy I believe in these latter days is a forsaking of the old gospel hymns for some new thing which seeks to gather the worldly minded into the assembly of the saints.

The seeker friendly churches seldom if ever sing hymns anymore. The church has become like the world which means the professing people who gather in such crowds would do well to examine themselves to see if they have this faith which the apostle John speaks about which overcomes the world.

When the world infiltrates the gathering place of God's people and begins to take over then you can be sure the faith is under attack and the gospel is being silenced and compromised.

True believers know that whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world. To be born again is to experience regeneration which is a work of the God the Holy Spirit. He gives faith to His elect (Titus 1:1) and they shall persevere to the end. Rejoice evermore and continue in the faith nothing wavering.
