Have you made way for the Master today? If you’ve proclaimed Jesus as Lord of your life, you’ve made a commitment of conscience that will affect every part of your life, even though, sometimes, you only allow God limited access. In truth, you’ve actually given Him full authority by asking Him into your heart to reign supreme in your life. But to completely comply, you need to clear the mantle of your heart of anything that would offend God. In the Book of First Samuel Israel’s enemies, as part of their booty, took the Ark of the Covenant where the manifest presence of the Lord dwelled.

The thieves brought the Ark into a household and placed it by the statue of a pagan god. Day after day each morning the pagan statue was found broken again and again and the people of the city were ravaged with disease because of having defiled the One true God. Because of their ignorance, these enemies of Israel brought even worse destruction upon themselves by thinking they could somehow appease the Lord by making two golden sacrificial images of gold and placing them in a chest near the Ark of God as an offering. This of course brought nothing but more disaster. The only excuse they had was not knowing any better, but when the Ark was returned to Israel, God warned His people to “return to the Lord with all your hearts and put away the foreign gods from among you, and prepare your hearts for the Lord, and serve Him only, and He will deliver you from your enemies” (1 Sam. 7:3).

As a believer in Jesus Christ you have a serious responsibility to make sure your house is blessed and not cursed by removing anything that offends God. Exodus 20:5 says God is a jealous God, and those who are His have no excuse in not knowing that the first commandment is to have no other gods before Him. To obtain and maintain the blessings of God in your life honor the Lord with your whole heart.
