Let us consider the words of Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

In the beginning who? God.

Did what? Created.

Created what? The heavens and the earth.

In the beginning, whenever that was, before time began God did something marvelous through His omnipotent hand. He spoke the worlds into existence by His fiat power. Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit. Out of nothing, nothing comes.

The materialist says or as Carl Sagan put it "The cosmos is all that ever was, is all that ever is and all that ever will be" as though Mr. Sagan had some how been around since the beginning of material existence. Where is the proof for such a statement? Well, there is no proof, just a statement of his belief, his faith and he acted in terms of that faith as most atheistic scientists do.

But consider this world: that the heavens and the earth were CREATED. CREATED! How? Out of nothing.

You can make a chair out of wood. But you can not create the wood. The wood came from a tree and God created that tree.

In the beginning God created. Consider what omnipotence must be attributed to our Creator. Such power to be able to speak such an awesome, vast, wonderful creation. Man in all of his multitude of wisdom could never so much as move this earth one iota from its axis apart from the will of God.

The great work of creation needs to be studied and contemplated more. You see, its fundamental to being a Christian to believe in the doctrine of creation. You can not be a Christian and deny this doctrine because it sets forth man's responsibility and duty as a creature. It makes a distinction between God the Creator and the creation.

Now if I was to ask you how you define the universe and you were to say well the universe is the sum total of all existence or all that is in existence. Okay, well God exists. Is God, therefore part of the universe? No. God is outside of the universe. He created the universe. The universe consists of all things excluding God. Indeed God's not a thing. So in the beginning God created. He did a marvelous thing. He created.

The Bible doesn't seek to prove the existence of God. It simply states it as a fact which all reasonable people believe. But when sin entered the world a terrible thing happened. Rebellion took place and consider what this sin involved. Sin waged war against God our Creator. It militates against the goodness of God. It militates against God's design and plan. You see sin is a transgression of the law of God.1 John 3:4 Sin is contrary to God's purposes, wishes and desires for His creation.

Creation began with Lucifer and that rebellion continues down through Adam and Eve and down through the creation to the present day. We see the effects of the fall "For by one man sin enetered into the world and death by sin so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned" Romans 5:12

Death is the result of sin. (Romans 6:23) Eternal death is what God has in view. Because death is universal it must have a universal cause being a universal effect and ofcourse sin is that universal cause according to the Bible.
