There was a time when a man who came to the courtroom and took the witness stand had to be a Christian. He put his hand on the
Bible and swore to tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help him God because as one who believed in God it was presumed that he feared God and, therefore, he would tell the truth and would not lie.

Now days man can come into the court room as a witness, be put on the stand and when asked to put his hand on the Bible to swear to tell the truth and nothing but the truth so help him God, he can say, "Objection! I'm an atheist sir. I don't believe in God" and he can still be a witness.

But there is something wrong with this. You see, where is the fear of God? On what basis is it presumed that this man will even want to tell the truth other than to protect his own self-interests. That's not good enough because on our own self-interests we woujld still be inclined to lie because there's no higher power checking our own sinful impulses, attitudes and desires. If we believe, however, in an Almighty God who has forbidden us to bear false witness and threatens punishment upon breaking or violating His law then we can, to a high degree, expect the truth.

Old Testament witnesses in cases involving capital crimes, who were proven false, were put to death. What happens to people today? Slap them on the hand. Give 'em a small fine to try to teach them a lesson? People scoff at truth everywhere. They say there is no absolute truth. Everthing is relative.

The philosphers and infidels of yesterday like Voltaire and Paine ridicule Biblical faith and exalt autonomous reason. These foolish intellects are with us today. These humanists attack the Bible constantly and instead of putting the Bible at the top of the list of best non-fiction, they, instead, put The Education of Henry Adams.

Even though the Bible has sold more copies than any other book in history and has positivley changed more lives they point for example to Noah's drunkeness and say, "Is this the man who was declared perfect in his generation?"

They point to King David's sin with Bathsheba and murder of Uriah the Hittite and say, "Is this the man after God's own heart?"

They argue against the bible like the liberals and modernists today and turn and twist it to their own destruction. They will give an account to God for their sin of unbelief.

Wicked men make a mock of religion and jest at holy things. These people can not see anything but historical events in an impersonal chance universe that runs wihtout rhyme or reason or they have such an evil bent against God, a predilection for unholy things that everything they see is impure except for their own actions.
These people are pure in their own eyes. They are wise in their own eyes. They make a jest at religion. Now, true, there is much to be lamented in modern day Christianity and religion in general.

"Pure religion, said James, is to visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions and to keep one self unspotted from the world" James 1:27

But these scoffers can not see the difference. They do not have the spiritual discernment to see and to sift through the wheat and the chaff. They have no judgment in these matters. But they condemn the God of the scriptures by saying he's not fair that he created a monster called Satan.

God did not create Satan. He created Lucifer.

These people say it is not fair that we should be blamed for what Adam did. They say it's not fair that there are wars across the world and that if God were a God of love he would stop these wars so he must not be all that powerful or he doesn't care and so they say all these things in unbelief. But if these things are true then in the natural realm what can we say that is good at all as pertaining to this life and to this world?

Our earth is swept by storms. The mountains are broken into by the finger of God at the quaking of the earth. The world is ravaged by disease and poverty and death. Even in creation the flower fades, trees lose their leaves. There is death on every corner of this globe.

People are stung by poisonous snakes, devoured by ravenous animals in Africa and India. Children are kidnapped, shot or stabbed in America. The elderly swindled and assaulted by con artists, punks and thugs in Europe.

We see that there is corruption, disease and pain everywhere by looking at the hospitals and jails.

My what a mission field! What an opportunity to reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Are you doing your part to rescue the perishing?
