The planted seed of youth and yore
did make a mountain momentous soar
oh holy knights and lights of lore
the Lord doth bless thee evermore for


Though sands of sense should swiftly pass
through this terrestrial time glass
City of God and city of mass
cast your eyes on latterday lass


From whose loins a prophet did rise
to capture a proud emperor's eyes
at Milvian Bridge hawkish sighs
hurdled and belted forth blood stained cries
the ensuing battle brought church-state vies.


Another day dawned a Julian sang
in the empire a heathen heart harrangue
as the evening yawned an apostate rang
"Thou hast conquered afterall Galilean"
so heathenism a while died with pang.


Onward Christian soldiers marching on to war
an earthly empire crumbles again once more
flailing flesh from the Goth's barbarous gore
the murderous rampage was rampant and for
this glorious city Jerome could not adore.


But still the Bride besought and blessed the barbarians bold
and grace poured down upon God's own from around the seraphic throne.
The orth'dox creed was no small deed consider what it told
the truth of Christ shattered thrice the Arianism sold.
The Franks were spared and Clovis shared the vict'ry to unfold.


For many a year people did cheer as Charlemagne rule strong.
He set the stage for order and law established schools life long
subdued the savage saxons the yet unconquered throng
The question friend you may ask yourself is, was this right or wrong?
Truth historic will vindicate this wise man Charlemagne's song.
