Yesterday I meandered along the path of God’s care for those few billion souls on earth who are hurting. There are a few billion more who suffer physical deprivation of such horrifying portions that they are oblivious to inner pain. Add to this reality those who are suffering while attempting to mask the pain in all sorts of excess and you have about ninety percent of earth’s population. So what’s the preacher to do? Here’s a suggestion.

F. B. Meyer was asked when in his 80s, what he would do differently if he could do his ministry over. He replied, "I would preach more to the hurting, for then you would always have an audience."

Dr. Meyer was a sound teacher of God’s truth as revealed in scripture and thus we may be confident that there would not be denial of reality in his message. Having been blessed over many years by the fruit of the Pastor’s pen I know his message to the hurting was, “Yes, life has its pain, but Christ gives the power to abide faithful and fruitful in spite of the pain of living. It is possible to have the indescribable joy of Christ while scalding tears run down your cheek.”

It is noticeable that Christ wept on occasion but there is no record of Jesus wallowing in the Ocean of Self Pity. Peter’s antidote for the how of living above inner pain is found at 1Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” Very good Idea.
