As most of you know I enjoy reading books, articles and even people. Often when “reading people like a book” is stated it is negative in meaning. I have learned it can and should carry a positive note. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said: “One ought, every day at least to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture and, if possible speak a few reasonable words.”

I thought of Goethe’s words as the wife of my youth walked by this morning. Sing about the girl from Ipanema all you want, she pales into insignificance alongside the Great Blonde. She was unaware that my gaze was concentrated on her. That she is and has been the song of my life these many years is true. As to the poem, she has always represented poetry in motion and Raphael at his peak never painted finer. I do admit to a near total inability to speak or write even a few reasonable words for several minutes after having seen her. She completes my day even early in the morning.

Say what you will I would have written the above even if I had not forgotten that today is her Birthday. But then her beauty is timeless. I note she is unusually quiet this morning and as the morning wears on it is eerily so. Pray for me.
