In the great scheme of life most of us make a mistake that determines a much lower level of success than that which we are capable of. It is good to be busy, but much better to be occupied in the area of your primary gift.

You may recall one of the tender rebukes of Jesus to a very busy woman in Luke 10:41 “And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:”

Martha was very busy and anxious about serving Jesus, but she forgot or refused to use a principle that even God uses. I will put it in one word momentarily. Matthew records a statement that on the surface implies that God wants us to be ever busier, yet slowly read the verse and understanding breaks through. Matthew 25:21 “His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Richard Koch explains the principle of extraordinary achievement with this; "Few people take objectives really seriously. They put average effort into too many things, rather than superior thought and effort into a few important things. People who achieve the most are selective as well as determined." The obvious but unstated word in each of today’s verses and Richard’s statement is near magical: Delegate.

Do what you do well, delegate the rest to capable people and instead of being ruler/responsible for a few things, God will give you many responsibilities to enjoy.
