A very good friend recently spent a few days in a hospital in Michigan. At the close of his note he offered this gem:

“Observations: I have noticed the call light does not work at home as well as it did in the hospital. Nor are the breakfast suggestions available. The selected fruit cup evidently is not on the menu. I am not surprised from years of experience. I knew the honeymoon was over when she told me to not make so much noise when I fixed my own breakfast. But really,... No one at the hospital kissed me good morning or good night. It is good to be home.”

Surely you understand why no names are mentioned. I guess with no good morning or good night kisses nurses aren’t as well trained as in earlier years. As was stated, it is good to be home. John Howard Payne wrote Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, "Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home;" In most enduring homes the service bell usually doesn’t work anymore and often the fruit cup may be missing, but other more meaningful ways of saying I love you are at work thus guaranteeing that coming home from palace, hospital or the day’s work will be anticipated with a quiet if not exuberant joy. It’s really hard for old people to get exuberant about anything other than Geritol.

Jesus tells a story that ends in great rejoicing at home, which means home should be a place of sharing all of life together. Luke 15:6 “And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.”
