I had served the Lord for many years prior to realizing a truth that is as old as time. Not grasping this truth wrought much havoc my life. While browsing through an old magazine a statement that I read at the dawn of my epiphany (light dawning in me) leaped off the page and helped me Selah, pause and ponder. Robert Murray M’Cheyne wrote:

"No amount of activity in the King's service will make up for neglect of the King Himself."

A popular Broadway musical dealt with the truth of keeping busy to cover a vacuum deep inside. The play features a widow who is so lonely she could die who attempts to cover her pain by dropping out of the comfortable life she had enjoyed with her husband. She is the reigning expert on everything from matchmaking to civil law. When she returns to the life enjoyed when her husband was alive, she is welcomed by old friends with the familiar, “Hello Dolly, it’s nice to have you back where you belong.”

The plot is set loosely around the Prodigal. Often “busy” is really an inadequate cover for an aching life. The church at Ephesus suffered from this malady and perhaps you are too. Read the solution given in part by Jesus in Revelation 2:5 “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works;”
