Ruth replied "Don't try to make me leave you and go back. Where you go I'll go. Where you stay I'll stay. Your people will be my people. Your God will be my God.

RUTH 1:16



Naomi's husband Elimelech and two sons Mahlon and Kilion had died while staying in Moab, leaving her and her daughters-in-law alone. Naomi, Ruth, and Orpah left for the land of Judah once she (Naomi), received word that God has blessed his people there. On the way, Naomi didn't see the need for all three of them to go, so she kissed them good-bye and sent them on their way. They refused however. But with enough persuasion Orpah was convinced and went on her way. Ruth, still refusing to leave, begged Naomi to let her come. She said:


"Don’t try to make me leave you and go back. Where you go I’ll go. Where you stay I’ll stay. Your people will be my people. Your God will be my God. Where you die I’ll die. And there my body will be buried. I won’t let anything except death separate you from me. If I do, may the LORD punish me greatly." (Ruth 1:16-17)

Powerful words, aren't they? Ruth and Naomi had such a tight bond that she (Ruth) wasn't going to let anything come between her and her and her mother-in-law. This is the type of relationship we should have with our Heavenly Father. The words of Ruth should become our words to our Father.

If we're willing to draw close to God, he'll draw close to us. (James 4:8) But the only way that's going to happen is by spending time with him daily. When you feel his spirit tugging at your heart, be sure to listen and get into his word. Because there's something he wants to tell you. And the more you listen and follow his direction, the closer to him you'll become.



Heavenly Father,


As we thing about the words of your servant Ruth to Naomi. May they encourage us to draw closer to you. May we have that strong bond with you as they had with each other. We know there are times when our faith starts to waiver, we get discouraged, and we just want to give up. But you’re always there to remind us not to give up in doing right (2 Thessalonians 3:13) and to take up our cross daily and follow after you (Mark 8:34). As we do, may you continually renew our minds (Romans 12:2) so we can live according to your will. And may we do so with a pure heart (Psalms 24:4-6). Thank you Father.
