As I stopped at the grocery store one day, I saw a lady getting out of her car, with a little girl. She had a horrible look on her face. She looked angry or upset! Not just a normal grouchy look, I’m talking a mean look. I thought to myself, she is probably one hateful lady. I actually tried to avoid her as I knew I was going to be walking past her, right in her path.
I slipped by, without looking up at her, cringing as I did. As I was shopping, I decided to go to the $1.00 aisle, which is my favorite. I saw someone in the tiny aisle so I hesitated. They seemed to be taking too long so I just inserted myself into the aisle so I could find some deals too.

There she was, we were face to face. I just froze. I thought if I stood still and didn’t make any moves, that I would not get in her way and it would be fine. Guess What? She looked right at me and said, “I’m so sorry, am I in your way? Let me move a little.” I was so surprised! She said she had an abscessed tooth and her face had been so swollen and hurting that she was absolutely miserable. She was standing in the medicine section. Her little girl looks up at me and says,” My Momma’s in a lot of pain.” She looked back at me and tried to get a smile out, but couldn’t. I could see it in her eyes. She talked for a few minutes and at that moment, I knew she was in my path, so I could pray for her.

The Holy Spirit stepped all over my toes that day and my heart. I learned a divine lesson. You never know what someone is going through. You can’t tell by a look on their face. I was avoiding someone because of a facial expression. Forgive me Lord. I look at people now and my first instinct, if they are ill or hateful, is to wonder what is going on in their lives and say a little prayer for them. Don’t be like I was. Use the opportunities to make someone like that feel special. Say a prayer for them too. They most likely need it.

Philippians 2:1
[ Have the Attitude of Christ ] Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.
