I’m sure most of you will identify the title of this post as the jingle for the Blinds To Go commercial. However, this title means far more to me than that. Answer this question for me, “Why is the attendance so low in the church”? Better yet, why are there so many backsliders (those who attend for a while, and just as you see progress, they disappear)?

In general, we worry too much about what size we are, what Sally is wearing, how we appear to others, what we’re driving, who said what, etc. More specifically, we worry too much about what the person on the pew behind us were doing the past two Sunday’s they missed church. We probably don’t realize how our tainted thoughts and actions are holding others back. Here’s where I’m going with this. What difference does it make if that person you’re eye-balling down listened to a secular song on the way to service… wore jeans to an evening program…mentioned they watched Housewives of Whatever on the TV…Too many people are struggling with their Christian walk due to a lack of acceptance at church, or their feeling of a lack of acceptance; possibly feeling as though they are expected to immediately change. Instead, would it hurt for us to get to know them, for who they are, not for who they are not?

Here’s my rant…for those of you who are the very ones turning your nose up at someone because they don’t walk a certain way, or talk a certain way, get over it. For those of you who feel like you don’t fit in because you choose to listen to R&B over gospel music, let it go. Stop allowing people within the four walls of a church to keep you from LIVING the purposeful life God has intended. If you don’t feel like you’re being spiritually fed where you are, find somewhere where you’ll be made full. In the meantime, while you’re seeking that meaningful place, seek God for guidance and understanding. Stop worrying that you’ll have to immediately “change your ways” in order to be “accepted” in the church, that’s not what’s important. If you went out Saturday night and worry because you did something you probably shouldn’t have done, SO WHAT, we all have and still do. STOP allowing fear to dictate your desire to reach God. If all you have to wear are some old baggy jeans and a Tupac shirt, put it on and SERVE your God; He wants your soul, not your outfit. He needs your heart, not for you to recite a scripture.

When you worry that you’re not good enough, just remember that you’re designed, built and installed to be exactly right.

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well”. Psalm 139:14
