Elijah was the prophet who said, “It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!” right after a great victory.

The prophet had just achieved a mighty triumph for God on Mt. Carmel, as Israel finally chose to worship Yahweh alone.

Elijah improved the opportunity as he insisted that the false prophets of Baal be killed, so they could no longer deceive.

Then Elijah prayed to the Most High, asking Him to send rain for His people. The prophet persevered and rain was sent.

The heathen Queen Jezebel responded by sending a messenger to threaten Elijah, that she would have him killed within 24 hours.

We don’t know what Elijah expected when he went to Mt. Carmel, but expectations that aren’t fulfilled can cause disappointments.

In spite of the fact that the rebellious nation had returned to worship Jehovah, Elijah was overwhelmed by the turn of events.

Instead of relishing the triumph, Elijah was frightened by the threat. If he really wanted to die, Jezebel would have been glad to help!

Of all the moral giants in the Old Testament - Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David, Daniel – God bypassed them all.

When Yahweh took a person to heaven without seeing death, He chose a man who had been depressed and despondent.

The Eternal One made sure the man who wanted to die, never would go through that experience.

What a tender, loving Father we have! He sees our burdens, He knows our sorrows, and God cares far more than we know.

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
