I have been around some wonderful people when they made a mistake – and the words that came out of their mouths were unbelievable.

The last time I checked the devil didn’t need any help – he was doing a good job of running down humans all by himself.

The ways these “fine” people talked to themselves was awful - they’d never talk that way to someone else. But they do it to themselves.

When they make a blunder they refer to themselves as idiots, stupid, fat, ugly, dim or brainless. They wouldn’t say that to anyone else.

But they seem perfectly comfortable talking to themselves that way. With help and encouragement like that, who needs enemies?

I wonder where they learned that kind of self-talk? If you wouldn’t talk to others that way, why talk to yourself that way?

Jesus said to love others the way you love yourself. Maybe it’s time some people learned to love themselves.

Starting with acceptance and the way they address themselves; a little understanding for the person in the mirror wouldn’t hurt.

We have to spend a long time with ourselves...so maybe it’s time to lighten up and be a little friendly, even when things go wrong.

We might try speaking to ourselves the way we would if Jesus was standing right there...because He is...and He is love.

It couldn’t hurt the mood of the day to be a bit kinder to ourselves – we might even discover we are a likeable person!
