Say good-bye to broken love,
   the message I sadly send.
If not for the fact I'm born above,
   my life I'd darkly rend.

If I could be like the loving Son,
   Whose love was unrequited.
The Promise Who can't be undone,
   no matter how we've despised Him.

I had sought, I had beckoned
   with words so born of prayer.
I had done as I had reckoned
   by the Book of heavenly care.
But there's no promise for this love
   to not be left unanswered.
Love's its own reward thereof,
   if its of Christ-like manner.

In this I've seen the Lord be good
   when His love is the glory.
I made sure to not be rude
   and friendship answered this story.
Now the love has been sent.
   though I've never kissed her.
So it turns out Jesus meant
   to make her a precious sister.

Now, for her, I'll be there,
   though I won't be seen.
She's one of many in my prayers
   with words no less mean.
So love that's lost in His name
   is love of holy reward.
It is love that mimics the fame,
   the mark of Jesus, Lord.

Thus my heart has been my cross,
   a burden sweetly carried.
For my Christ I count the loss
   Whose love has never tarried.
I took my words, with their heart,
   and honored her free-will choice.
In this my love left its part;
   in leaving, spoke its voice:

“Love cannot be without her choice
   or she cannot be Love.
Free will must be her heart's voice,”
   thus Life spoke wisely thereof.
“Love cannot love, except by her will.
   Force will not be her fate.”
This is the law He instilled.
   “Forcing Love would make love rape.”

Have I been like the Son,
   Whose love was unrequited?
May the answer leave me undone,
   because I once despised Him.
It may now be I know His love,
   holy heart left unanswered.
It testifies I'm born above,
   despite sin's treacherous cancer.

Say good-bye to broken love,
   hello to a good, dear friend.
Just because I'm born above
   this is the joy I send.

For a certain sister who was the subject of many of my poems. She is still just a sister, though precious nonetheless. She knows who she is.

I myself have gained eternally greater things.
