We are on vacation until 10-24

This vacation is the first real one in many years where we are
actually going somewhere else other than back home. After all, we
live in Florida, the land of perpetual vacations. I was named after
David Lloyd George (WW-1 British Prime Minister) who once
said, "For me, a change of trouble is like a vacation." I'm hoping
we don't have that kind of vacation.

I wonder where and when the concept of vacations originated?
The closest I could come to vacations in the Scriptures is found in
Mark 6:31 & 32 (nlt), "Then Jesus said, 'Let's get away from the
crowds for awhile and rest.' They left by boat for a quieter spot."
When we go on vacations, we don't always look for a quieter place,
but maybe we should.

Being quiet and letting God speak to us is good for the soul. Rest
is a popular subject in the Bible. It occurs 254 times in the KJV
and even more in others. Unfortunately, too many of us get little
rest because we are restless by nature. If God would say, "Come
apart and rest awhile," most of us would put a period after the word
'apart' and go no further -- we'd just come apart.

Every now and then, batteries need to be recharged -- so do we.
We'll see you in two weeks. In the meantime I hope you enjoy my
writings from four years ago that are being sent by proxy.
