Poetry
If I told you of a darker side,
would you remain my friend?
Would you keep a faith not denied,
or would it simply end?
If I told you of my past,
would you still love me?
Would our joy be overcast,
would you set me free?
I know I am a new creation,
but the dead still has a stench.
Though I enjoy God's salvation,
there's still circumstance.
Though it's true, I have repented,
the millstone has its weight.
Though all my wounds have been mended
the offense of the scar is great.
My final act of love may be
to share with you what follows.
What comes with this saint that you see
that is not so hallowed.
I may find I've tested love
from you that's of the Lord.
I may see how you're born above,
that you'll be more adored.
But for now I hold back,
to show you who I'm now.
That the Lord has not been slack
to make me new in Him somehow.
Then if I share and you're still here
'cause you see the man I am.
That's one more reason for me to cheer,
giving praise to the Son of Man.
This is my charge from my King:
to stay in Him each day.
To keep His word for me to sing;
to walk in Him and pray.
Then all may see what He has done
with this wretched and once-blind.
How He's loved me like a son;
His grace has been so kind.
If my life makes you praise
our one Living Hope.
It will be like a flag so raised
to Love of unbound scope.

It is true the past in many ways is the past. Even so David saw repercussions for his failures with Bathsheba and Uriah, with his family and his kingdom. All sin has consequence, though some sins have a smaller millstone with them. The Lord does indeed forgive and restore, yet sin, even dead, has a stench that some may not wish to deal with from others.
Would you change with what you may learn of me?
There are Christians who have criminal records. I know of one who once had committed murder. I also know a few who have an STD because of past indiscretions. They are forgiven and repentant. Yet it may be that some would not want a more intimate relationship with them. It's not a matter of judgment or condemnation. It's simply life choices.
Out of love many have had to tell a potential life-partner of repercussions of the past so that potential partner can make a decision based on facts. That may mean telling them of something that no longer is practiced, yet has a lingering shadow that will only disappear at the end of this age. This poem is for those persons.
My desire is that Christians would be innocent while not being so naive.
