In the new covenant, we are not governed by the law of death but the law of the Spirit of Life and we have been set free from the law and from all that the law brings with it like; condemnation, fear, inadequacies and ultimately death. The law of Love is written upon our heart by the Holy Spirit (Rom 5:5) of love and miraculously this law of love is not fulfilled by us (i.e. our works) but in us (as Christ takes His place in us by His Sprit) because at re-birth we become on spirit with Him( 1 Cor. 6:17) . The law of sin and death finds its expression through the flesh and the law of the Spirit of Life finds its expressions through the spirit and your guess is as good as mine; Yes they always oppose each other and like antagonist muscle the domination of one is the complete marginalization of the other.
However where the flesh dominates, the consequence is death and when the Spirit dominates, the end result is Life for the flesh can never do the will of God! We of the new Covenant based on better promises are not of the flesh, but of the Spirit of Christ that lives in us (because having the Spirit of Christ is the only indication that we are His vs.8), means having a turn of mind to some degree like the mind that was/is in Christ Jesus; (Phil 2:5) and this is to be seen in our life; words, thoughts and actions glorifying the Spirit that lives on our inside. We are dead in the body to sin but alive unto righteousness. This Spirit raised Christ from the dead and is able to quicken our bodies making it alive to please God! This is not just some high moral lifestyle greeted by the world’s applause but this is the deposition of the children of the Father greeted by the nod of approval of the Spirit; not in oppressive demands or bondage but in loving directions where we lovingly whisper ‘Daddy, Daddy’ in response and then we know we are children and beneficiary with Christ.
Fleeting and shallow are our present inconveniences in relation to our weight; what we real are, what we are becoming in the process and what we will become. The revelation of this weight is what the whole cosmos is waiting in deep anticipation for in our glorious expression is their liberty from this decaying age under which they cry and we also feel the pangs as though in the labor theater even as the first fruits of the Spirit and partakers of the new covenant, we wait for the redemption of our bodies (I Peter 1:4, 2Cor. 5:2). In this hope and expectation is our salvation for in the absence of this our soul despairs.
In our frailties and inadequacies, the Spirit helps and we are not forgotten. In our walk with God, the Spirit energies us for God’s footsteps are giant strides and we wouldn’t be able to catch up nor will our minds conceive His paths. By the Spirit knowing what is in the very mind of God, He Himself helps our infirmity in prayers in speechless groaning too much for words.
With these we know that our frailties, infirmities, persecutions, pangs and more work together for our (ultimate and immediate) good because we love Him and called according to His purpose ( John 15:16)
