The angels of God play a major role in our lives as children of God predominantly and the world generally that the English poet and philosopher Samuel Taylor Coleridge once said “If man is not rising upwards to be an angel, depend upon it, he is sinking downwards to be a devil.” Angels are messengers and servants of the Most High God, they give service in working out the plans of God; carrying out the will of God solely and in all they do; the power, wisdom and glory, it all spring out from God, He is the Source!
I believe Hebrews 1 vs. 14 explicitly indicates the whole purpose of angels. “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation?” Heb 1:14. They minister in various capacities that can be deduced from everyone of their activity recorded in the Scriptures.
2 Kings 19:35. I so love this I have to mention it first. This truth that angels can and do fight for us physically (and indeed in all spheres) really excites me. With our human limitation in time, space and in all kinds of inabilities, angels many times fill in for us in real time and for real and anticipated result. They listen to our voices and wait on us for promptings. They are swift, strong and reliable!
Gen 19:1-26, Acts 5:17-20, Acts 12: 1-11. Angels give service to our deliverance from diverse troubles. We can not be too deep in a mess angels can’t work out deliverance, they are very good in opening gates without keys, slipping files into the right place and pleading our case in our absence.
Psalms 34:7, 2Kings 6:15-18 Angels don’t only deliver us from troubles whenever we get into one they also protect us from troubles and onslaughts of the enemy. They mount garrisons around about us (I always feel like a million box when I consider this!) we are surrounded by fire and heaven-class security personnel. How then will you swag if you know this is true and of course it is true! Read what Ellen G. White has to say “Could the veil be lifted, we would see that angels of God are around us to preserve us from unseen dangers. Thousands of times has their care been especially manifested for us in our warfare with the agencies of Satan.”
Luke 1:11-13, Acts 8:26-30, 10:1-8 Guidance, enlightening and directions are like wisely provided by angels. Our dais sometimes does not give us full and sufficient view but angels of the Most High God give us guidance, enlightenment and direction. Angels do this service in working out the Divine plans and will of God in our behalf.
Gen. 21:14-19, 1 Kings 19:3-7, Matt. 4:10-11. As Victorious soldiers of Christ we often need encouragement and comfort in the life and the angel of the Lord are always there to minister it to us however we want it whether it is a pat on the back, a shoulder to lean on or someone to wipe away our tears!
1 Cor. 4:9 Angels don’t just get do stuffs for us, they are also busy as they watch on in jaw dropping wonder, the flawless plan of salvation and of course we the object of it.
Rev. 19:10. Not only do angels serve us, but we also can be fellow servants of God with them. Angels serve us and we many times as well work hand in hand to accomplish common goals with and without our knowledge since we serve the same Master.
1 Cor 6:3. Some day we will judge angels, those that are rebellious to our Father.
All these are not some mystic extraterrestrial fairy tale, they are (and should be) every day events and reality to every child of God but we sometimes look to the not so right place. Here are some help;
Angels sometimes come in ordinary forms; you remember Abraham in Genesis 18- the prophesy and deliverance that followed? Heb 31:2 says “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” In fact James Russell Lowell once said “All God's angels come to us disguised.” But I believe they sometimes come in big ways.
In conclusion, did I mention that God will be more pleased to have us heirs of the kingdom do for one another some of he things angels do? Oh yes He does, it gives him more pleasure
