Leaving impressionable foot prints as we journey life’s road are attributes we learned from the cradle and will follow us to the grave.

Impressing parents with the first word spoken, or the first step taken is the beginning of a long arduous road.

Parents, playmates, school teachers, pastors, our pets, and employers play leading roles on our playing field of life.

Parents are the easiest to impress simply because we are apart of their makeup. Their qualities and values are attributed on to us during our growing up years. Parents impact our thoughts with knowledge that will tag us our entire lives. Lessons we learn based on parental teachings, are ingredients which constitutes our adult status.

Playmates are an important part of growing up. Sharing, caring and loving are all apart of having and being a playmate. The impression we leave with a playmate will cause them to return again to enjoy play with us. Negative playtime can result in loss of friendship that could have blossomed into a lifelong relationship. Either a good impression is made, or on the other hand, a bad impression. Regardless of the worth, we leave our foot prints.

The inner realizable purpose of life is sanctioned by the support and approval we receive from teacher’s during our school years. Our academic standards depend entirely on two subjects at hand, the teacher who has the knowledge and the student who desires the knowledge. Learning, or back to the old adage, putting the best foot forward, is most generally an easy impression to make with a school teacher. A teachers position and in-depth nature, is to direct a student into a realm of knowledge that they are instinctively unfamiliar with.

Often times during our lives we encounter situations that need be brought to the attention of a pastor or clergyman. As youngsters we tend to be on our best behavior in the presence of the “more godly” figures. Our pastors are not exempt from leaving quality impressions on our lives. His conduct in the pulpit or in public life merits him as our leader, so to speak. We often mirror our own lives according to the lessons we learned from our pastors. In contrast to the academic destiny taught in schools, our pastor imparts in us the knowledge of eternity.

When applying for a new job, impression is very important. Promotions and raises often depends on, not only our competence, ensuring the job is done correctly, but as well, the impression we leave on other employees. Complaining constantly, disrespect for employers or other employees, and lack of participation as a team player leaves a negative impression in the work place that is very difficult to correct.

As we journey through our lives, regardless of the outcome, we leave an impression on the people we meet. Our aim is to always leave a good and lasting impression, yet there are times we fail in our endeavor. In our busy “impression leaving” stroll through life, we give little thought to the one we should most highly impress. By society’s standards, it is of utmost importance to influence our fellow man, which is not our gateway to God’s grace. Of course God intended for us to gain knowledge and conduct ourselves appropriately amongst those we meet. But in our final hour, the legacy we leave behind holds no credence to our awareness of God and the impression we left on Him. Value the teachings of others. Value the knowledge acquired that assisted you in every aspect of your life. But value the importance of God first and foremost. Consider that without His loving grace you would not have been able to sustain the many factors needed to excel in your endeavors. Rather than leaving a legacy of worldly attractions, leave your foot prints behind…foot prints that lead directly to the throne of God.
