It was recently brought to attention the many attributes within the word responsibility. After reading the word over and over, it finally hit home. Responsibility, no longer, “just a word found in the Webster Dictionary," rather a word with profound meaning.

Being in tune with one’s self, and knowing the burden of our own self needs, as well the needs of family, friends and employer, is a stepping stone forward in the right direction.

We were designed by our Creator to be responsible for our actions. Responsibility is a gift from God. He instilled the gift into us, allowing us as free moral agents, to use it in accordance to our own desires. Unfortunately, many of us don’t use our gift according to God’s purpose. At times, everyday obligations take a toll, and if we surrender to our feelings of deprivation or become overwhelmed by our expected obligations, we often throw our accountabilities to the side and open ourselves to perplexed situations.

God’s divine creation for mankind was certainly not to overload us with a ton of negativity. Reflect on Adam, and the surroundings God placed him in, namely the Garden of Eden. God gave Adam the responsibility of tending the garden. He also told Adam that of all the lovely trees and plants in the garden, only one tree was prohibited. The man was not permitted to eat of that tree. Apparently Adam followed the rules quite well until God created him a helpmeet. Blaming the woman for Adam’s sin is shallow belief. Adam, after God created a mate for him, had not only the responsibility of attending the garden, he now had to ensure that Eve did not eat of the Tree of Knowledge. Some my disagree with this theory, and point the finger at Eve. In essence, however, both Adam and Eve were told to leave the tree alone. Not to pass the blame on Adam, both he and Eve were given devout instructions and their responsibility was to follow God’s instructions.

A grave punishment followed Adam and Eve’s disobedience. They were ordered from the garden. Paradise, if you will, was no longer available to them. Failing to follow God’s instructions can be detrimental to us in present time, as it was to Adam and Eve.

Our instructions are explicitly explained in the Word of God. Thou shalt not, means by all standards, thou shall not…period. It is our obligation to bond with the sacred books authors and adhere to the teachings which will never be outdated.

In times of desperation, when it feels the world is on our shoulders and those things we are held responsible for become burdensome and hard to carry. When we feel like giving up and forsaking all things that require responsibility, as many of us have, the answer is God. If we only turn to Him, where it seems there is no path we can take that will get us beyond our hopelessness, God, if we allow, will make a way.

Satan will entrap us, causing us to believe we are failures, and what lies ahead in dismal despair. His responsibility is to destroy that which God builds, namely, God’s creation. He catches us at our weakest moment, the coward that he is, tries to capture our attention directing it toward the deceptive route, that if we follow will cast us onto the path directed to hell. A responsible decision is to avoid all appearances of evil.

We were all allotted our own distinct responsibilities, none so magnificent they cannot be contained. It is human nature to feel pressured and become overwhelmed at times. There is however, no problem or disappointment we face in life that is a challenge for God. If we allow God to take full control, He will lead us out of the dark valley, one that we may feel we will never escape. Our responsibility is to seek Him and ask for direction. There may be hurdles, to get through, around or over, our responsibility is to face the challenge and not accept the defeat.
