Surrounded by family and friends
And yet separated from them somehow
Wrapped in the warmth of a loving God
And yet unbelievably cold

What I see I cannot touch
What I know I cannot see
Cannot...or will not...it is the same

I should open the door to Love’s request
But I sit motionless...staring at the knob
Hoping somehow it will turn of its own accord
That Love will invade...will break in
Will overcome my uncertainty
But that is not Love’s way
That is not His way

He will not break in where no welcome is offered
Or demand entrance to a locked heart
He will but knock and wait
And as He waits...I sit and stare
If I would have Love enter
If I would have Him abide with me
It must be my hand that turns the key...
My hand that lifts the latch
What a strange power this is
He who could end my existence with a breath
He who holds the deed to my heart and life
Simply knocks and waits

From somewhere deep inside
Empty longing turns into hope
And that hope gives birth to strength
And in that strength I turn the key and open the door
Expecting...what?
Nothing? Something? Anything?
I do not know
But what I see is a Lamb with the eyes of a Lion
And He is bleeding
As I kneel and hold Him
I suddenly see the blade that pierced His heart
It is held by countless hands
And the one on top is mine

In shame I pull back
Afraid to look into the eyes of this dying Lamb
But when I do...I am startled
Where I expected to see death...there was LIFE!
Where I expected to see pain...JOY!
And for accusation...LOVE!

All at once I knew He was glad...even happy
To be bleeding...for me
Even me...whose guilty hand
Had wounded His precious heart

And just as suddenly
The Love that would not break in...breaks forth
And I am filled with it...even as it enfolds me
And in that filling I realize
That I am His...and that I am new
And that my door will close no more...FOREVER!
