"However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him (King Hezekiah) to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart." - 2 Chronicles 32:31 (Parenthesis Mine)

There are a few times where the Bible mentions that God chooses to be silent. It seems every time He is it is a test. God did this with Hezekiah for this reason, as an example to us.

When we read of the story of Hezekiah we see a king who had an on-going rapport with his God. He was almost always quick to bring the Lord into everything that had to do with him and his country.

Then the Lord was silent. Was the Lord displeased with the king?

There are friendships, relationships, where the two involved are very close, one always letting the other know what is on their mind. Because so much is shared nothing more is needed to be said. Maybe some of us have human relationships like that (I know I have) where they can actually enjoy the silence because it testifies to the closeness. In fact it often cannot be described as silence, but as quiet instead.

It is the same with the Lord. We may be so close to Him that He can afford to be quiet. The quiet reveals Him for Who He is: One who has spoken faithfully out of love and has become quiet for the same reason.

Sometimes, in those human relationships, it is usually the least secure one in the relationship that needs to speak up because the quiet disturbs them. The quiet inadvertently tests the insecure person in those relationships. They will be the first to speak up or act up out of concern.

It is the same with us in our relationship with the Lord. The quiet reveals us for who we are: untrusting and full of insecurity. This is myself.

I am convicted that the Lord is close to me regardless of what is going on. He is closer than my thoughts, my dreams and my fears.

May you find this true for yourself. His being quiet only attests to His love for you.
