Short Stories
This is a love story, a rare and beautiful story. One I believe needs to be shared with as many people as possible. When I finish, you will understand why. There was a young man, who was very confused in his life. He tried to live life the way he wanted. God loved him and wanted to be part of his life, but he ran from God. God chased him. God used many people to tell him of His love. He ran even harder, until he was captured! By the police! He had gotten in to trouble and ended up in a federal prison, with maximum security.
There was also a beautiful, Godly woman who loved God with all her heart. God was her world. She would seek His face, spend time in His presence and listen to His voice. God placed this man on her heart and she began writing him. They had known each other at a previous time in their lives. She would never have believed what was to come. As they wrote back and forth, they became friends. She would pray and intercede for him.
We all know prison is a bad place. I don’t think if you have never been there, you can even comprehend the lives they have to lead while they are in there. They have to watch their backs, they have to watch others get beaten or maybe even killed. They are surrounded by the mob, gangsters, drug cartel and even the taliban. Prison can turn a man cold and bitter. One night in the prison, the young man was put in solitary confinement. They were brutal to him. It brought him to the lowest point in his life. I won’t describe what they did to him, but it seemed absolutely inhumane to me. That night in that small room, he was captured! This time by the overwhelming love of God! He lay there beaten and broken on the floor and cried out to God who had been chasing him and wouldn’t give up. At that moment, he was changed forever.
The beautiful lady felt impressed by God to pray for him fervently that night. She prayed to God on his behalf for many hours, not knowing what was happening to him at that moment. Then, when he called her and told her what had happened, she understood that God had used her to intercede for his physical life and his spiritual life.
As they continued, to write and talk on the phone, they fell in love. Once again, he was captured! This time, by someone who was destined by God, to be by his side. They were married while he was in prison. They waited 15 years for him to be released. That alone, tells of the great love they shared. An amazing love! They would pray and fast together and talk about the things of God. As he became closer to the Lord, he became a Prison Chaplin and ministered to thousands of inmates. God used him greatly. When he was released and came home to his bride, this couple had the most beautiful renewing of vows I believe I have ever seen. As they stood before God and all their loved ones, it was God who was glorified. It was God who was lifted up and loved on.
This couple is still being used by God in a great way. They share that love with a lot of people. Those of us, who are in their lives, are extremely blessed by the friendship we have and the spiritual wisdom that we learn from them. I know that God is giving them a ministry together, that is far beyond what I could ever imagine.
This is the reason I tell their story. To know this man, what he lived through and to know him as a man of God, is so incredible. He is full of love, excitement, kindness, enthusiasm for the Lord. He shares it with everyone he comes in contact with. He was gone for a total of 17 years of his life. He is soaking up everything he sees, hears and touches. You can see in his eyes, the excitement when he is outdoors and taking in God’s creation. You can see it in the way he loves people. He makes everyone feel like they are someone special. You can see in the way he worships on Sunday. He just loves on God with his hands raised and singing his praises to the Lord. You can hear it in his voice, when he talks about what God has done for him.
This is the Extraordinary love! He was captured by the presence of God! It is evident in his smile and in the personality that God has given him. He could have been cold, hard and bitter, but when he accepted Christ into his heart, God filled him with an Extraordinary love! You would never know he had been in prison. His tender heart and soft approach is the love of God that lives in him, reaching out to others every opportunity that arises. Extraordinary!
We all have things in our past. Can we look at life the way this man of God does? Have we let things in our life taint the way we look at things? I pray that we never run from God, but that we soak up His presence. We need to let Him capture us in any way that He wants to. That we let our love and excitement for the Lord be evident in our lives, so that God can receive all the glory that He deserves. That we will never be just an ordinary Christian, but an Extraordinary Christian, showing the Extraordinary Love of God.
