I have been waking up at 3:30 or 4:30 in the morning lately. My usual routine does not involve waking up at those times of early morning. I am the type of sleeper who can sleep until 10:00 a.m. easily.

My husband gets up early every morning at 4:30. His job requires him to be at work by 6: oo a.m. He also seems to be waking up a lot lately. When we do wake up, we both do the same thing, we pray. We simply talk to God and pray.

We try our best to have a routine of prayer together, every night before we go to bed. We pray through out the day, knowing that Jesus is with us all day long. We are very aware of God’s presence in our life and our surroundings. Some might say we are fanatical, but I just say that we are striving to put God first in every area of our life.

So as I sit here, at 4:30, wide awake, I have spent some time with Jesus already. I sometimes wonder if He wakes us up, so that He can have that special alone time with us, without the busy rush of the day, or things distracting us, like kids, or phone calls, etc. Maybe in the hush of the early morning, when we are grumbling about our sleep, God just wants our attention. To tell us something, to fellowship with us, or just let us sit at His feet, knowing that we are willing.

Next time you awake in the early morning, think in your heart; is it my Lord calling me? Be like Samuel and let the Lord speak to you.

1 Samuel 3:10
The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."
