Update: It appears Reverend Jones has decided to cancel the burning of Qurans. He attributes his decision to God telling him to refrain,through prayer.

I attribute it to people praying for him, and the Lord acting according to His nature, as portrayed in His word.

The following is a story that shows what happens when one throws aside the teachings of Christ for the sake of self-appeasement:

To sum up, Reverend Terry Jones plans to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11th.

Rev. Jones seems to have forgotten the essential teachings of our Lord because he wants to make a statement to Muslims by burning copies of the Quran. He needs to stop and may only stop as the result of prayer for him.

Consider the following verses he seems to have forgotten:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also." - Matthew 5:38-40 (Taught as a response to an attack from someone violently opposed to a believer).

"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues." - Matthew 10:16-17 (Spoken in the context of persecution and animosity from those who do not to believe).

"Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures." - James 4:1-3 (Implies that violent retaliation for the sake of retribution and control comes from a selfish immature spirit).

We know all too well that war for a Christian is not against people but the evil influence and tyranny of Satan. Those who have not submitted to the Gospel are portrayed by scripture as being dead and blind. Who needs to attack a blind or dead person?

The best way to oppose evil is to love by sharing the Gospel of Christ, not by burning their revered literature.

Please pray that Rev. Jones would come to his senses and remember his Bible.
