I wear a blue rubber bracelet that says "Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly." I wear it to remind me of Micah 6:8 which says:
He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
Do you ever wonder what God requires of you? Do you every say or think, besides accepting Jesus and repenting of our sins, what else is there? As far as obtaining forgiveness and eternal life there is nothing, yet God does expect us to love a God;y life. That is what it means to repent. To repent means to go in the other direction. In other words, when we repent of our sins, we are not only sorry for them, we turn from them. We do a 180. We stop walking in the ways of our sin, and start walking in the ways of God.
So, what are the ways of God? This is one of those few questions that God actually answers. Read Micah 6:8 again "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
God wants us to act justly. We must not be unjust. We serve a just God, so we too must be just.
God wants us to love mercy. This means we must be forgiving, We cannot hold grudges and love mercy. We cannot stay angry at someone and love mercy. If we love mercy, then we will extend mercy.
God wants us to walk humbly with Him. Okay confession time. This is perhaps the hardest thing for me to do. I tend to have a lot of pride; especially in my walk with God. I love to pat myself on the back when I do my devotions or say my prayers. I even like to say well if there is any good thing to have pride in, I guess it is my relationship with God. Yet, when I consider my sins, when I consider how much I struggle to act justly and to love mercy, I realize just how fortunate I am that I even have a relationship with God. The truth is our relationship with God is a precious gift that we receive through the mercy of God which he poured out on the cross of Jesus Christ. So, no one can take pride in their walk with God, because it is not something we earned. Reading Scripture is not a task we do to be patted on the back, it is a privilege we have that brings us closer to God. Thus, as we live the Christian live, or walk to Christian walk, we need to do so humbly.
The Christian Walk is not always easy. Thus, it is important that we ask God for the strength to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with him on a daily basis.
