We were created to live relationally. In other words, we were created to live in relationship with others. How do I know this? I know this because we are created in the image of the God. God is a relational God. God was relational before creation withing God's Self. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all one God, yet they are three separate persona's that relate with each other. They not only relate with each other, but they also relate with us. Therefore, since we were created in the image of the Triune God, we are created to live relationally.
What does this mean exactly? It means that we need to be intentional about relationships. We all have relationships. Some of us have more than others, but we all have them. Even if you live alone you have relationships with the people you interact with. And, of course, if we are Christian we all have our relationship with God. We need to make these relationships a priority in our lives. This means that we need to put our relationships first. In short, we need to make sure we are living out Mark 12:30 in which Jesus says we are "Love the Lord your God with all of you heart and with all of your soul and with all of your mind and with all of your strength." Then in verse 31 he tells us to "Love our Neighbor as our self." Jesus calls these the two greatest commandments. I think these are the two greatest commandments because God knows that if we are going to become who he wants us to be, then we are going to need Him and each other. God did not make us to go through life alone. If fact, it is impossible for us to live the Christian life alone. Thus, we need help from God and each other.
So, I encourage you to live relationally. Be intentional about your relationship with God and your relationships with others. As you go through your day ask yourself if what you are doing is improving your relationships. Sure, there will be tasks that you have to do through out the day that may take you away from relationships, but at the end of the day you should be able to say that you improved some of your relationships. Even if all you do is smile at your co-workers, customers, and.or clients, do something that will let others know that you care and that you need them.
We need each other. Let's all ask God for the strength to live relationally, and then watch God change our lives and the lives of those we are in relationship with.
