How are you growing?

“The way of loyalty I have chosen; I have set your edicts before me.” [Psalm 119.30 NASB]

In this verse David is still discussing and analyzing the false way and the true way. As believers, we receive numerous opportunities from God every day to do what is right and our response to these incidents will eventually determine our character.

At a really difficult time in his life, David had deliberately decided to walk away from the way of deceit and choose instead the path of loyalty to God and man. What had helped David to make the right choice? He had made God’s word his rule of thumb and measuring rod.

God’s word was His unerring and unchanging opinion about what was right or wrong. Very often, really difficult experiences are the breeding ground for wrong attitudes to be birthed. David was aware of this and he decided to stay loyal to God and man, despite all that had happened to him and around about where he was.

Consequently, the man of God walks in faithfulness to God and in covenant with his fellow man. That is, his heart is right with God and he always speaks the truth to everyone. This was what marked out the Lord from His contemporaries. For too long they had made a substantial and influential living by having a degree in dissimulation, which was applied and enforced by peddling God’s word to prove their particular point of view.

When I was a new believer I was always startled when a mature Christian fell away. I could not understand why one day they were in church and the next day they were somewhere else.

Then I realized that life consists of permitting small seeds of discontent and deceit to have room to grow and develop in our lives. This very often takes place, when no one else is around. [David McArdle]
