Depend on His promises

“Let your love come to me, Lord, salvation in accord with your promise.” [Psalm 119.41 NASB]

As in the previous portion of Scripture, David refers once again to another one of God’s many and precious promises.

There was at this time in his life, the desperate need for God's love and the accompanying salvation of the Lord. Obviously, David loved the Lord, but like many of us he longed with a deep and all consuming desire to love Him more and more.

When we take an honest look at our inner life, we may also see that we need more, perhaps a lot more, of the steadfast love of the Lord. It is interesting to note that the first charge of the risen and glorified Lord against the first church in the Revelation was in relation to their loss and lack of love. This might indicate that, to the exclusion of everything else, the Lord is looking for that kind of dedication from among His people.

Are you at this time in a tight place or an encased situation? Do you feel, that day-by-day, you are getting slowly and slowly more and more restricted in what you can do and at the same time your spiritual light is diminishing fast and you also feel that you are spiritually suffocating?

As believer's, we sometimes truthfully testify about the predicament from which we seek deliverance. However, as we go on with the Lord we are also aware that the conflict with our enemy is getting more and more intense.

Why? The enemy will not give ground easy; therefore we, like the Lord, need to be steadfast in our commitment and to see to the end the path which, by His grace we have started on.

There were two solid and unshakeable pillars on which David rested his whole life, they were the salvation of the Lord and His word of promise.

David stood in need of God's enabling power. Maybe, we also need His equipping and liberating power. Like David, you also have His promises; therefore, keep on claiming them until you see your enemy turning, running away and terrified to look back. [David McArdle]
