The Power of Friendship


The power of friendship is a great power that I believe is underestimated.
Friendship is an amazing relationship that we all need in our life. If you begin to list things about friendship you realize it can be defined many ways:

A friendly smile
An ear to listen
A bond that if true, is unbreakable
A relationship that God himself
recognizes with great importance
Someone who lifts your spirits
Someone who laughs at your jokes
Someone you can call at any hour
A person to gossip or share your
thoughts with
A person you can be yourself with
People you celebrate with

An extraordinary opportunity to share a piece of your life with someone. True friendship can have time apart and still pick up where it left off.
Friendship gives us the opportunity to find worth in others as well as
ourselves.

Friendship is not a marriage or intimate relationship, although those relationships include friendship, they are different but they are similar in many ways. Although the love is different the intensity is the same. You carefully craft a friendship. You take the time to know the other person. Their faults, shortcomings, strengths and personality. You must be compatible with the other person. A great trust is necessary to create a strong bond.

I believe love and friendship go hand and hand. All relationships that have love also have friendship to some degree and vice versa. We love our children, and although we are their parents first, we instill a baseline for friendship, which as they get older matures. It is our job as parents to be parents first in our younger children’s life, but you also like your children and want to have a relationship with them where you enjoy doing things together. As your children reach a certain age and are out on their own, the relationship (friendship) you have built with them matures and you find that although you are their parents, they are also some of your best friends. You begin sharing more of your life and feelings with each other. Family bonds are one of the hardest to break. I think when God created us he intentionally made us that way. He is our Father and our friend and he wants this bond to be impossible to break. God expects to be considered part of your family and your best friend.

When you befriend the Lord, a great strength is built between you two. A trust, admiration, and compassion are created. One will defend their friend. They will protect them and try and keep them out of harms way. Much like the Lord has done with us.

A friendship with the Lord is the supremest friendships you can have. He has created us in his own image. We have a need to befriend others, as he does with us.

There are different levels of friendships. I feel all are important and serve there purpose. There are your acquaintances, church/school friends, your Bff’s, family and most important, God. I believe God’s purpose for friendship was to teach us to love. Anyone that you love carries a degree of your friendship. If love is the greatest of all in God’s eyes, friendship would have to fall in the same rankings. Everyone on the Earth has or has had friends. Even as Jesus Christ walked the Earth, he built friendship. They are powerful bonds that are still talked about 2000 years later.

So if friendship is such a valuable thing, how is it that we often don’t realize the effects of it? Friendship can change people’s lives. It can lead a sinner to God, save a person from self demise, cure loneliness, and give someone a portal hole to open up when they normally suppress all feelings.

The best part of friendship is that it is free. I think if people realized the impact friendship had on people, they would desire to be a better friend. If you’ve ever had a good friend you know what I mean.

It is silly to think that if God designed us in his own image, that he does not desire a friendship. He requires a friendship like we do. Someone to share our good days with. Someone to share our bad days with. Someone to guide us and love us. God is the ultimate friend. He knows our heart; he knows all the good and all the bad and loves us anyways. All he wants in return is our love, faith and hope. He wants to have an amazing friendship with you, and the title of your best friend. Not much of a price for all that he is and continues to be. A constant companion, a friend that will never fail, a confident that will always keep your secrets safe, a protector, a provider and so much more. If you sat and thought about it for a moment you would realize.

God is the power of friendship!
